Kitchen & Bathroom Trends 2020

If you’re remodelling your bathroom right now, you want to look at what’s not only popular today, but what will be popular in the future. Right now, the very popular trend of white-on-white, clean and minimalistic is beginning to phase out. In its place, a deeper, more characteristic trend is taking place, especially for bathrooms and kitchens.

Here is a guide to designing your space with 2020 latest trends in mind.

COLOUR SCHEME

Of course, just knowing what the popular colours will be and then implementing them are two very different things. Here are some ways to best incorporate the soon-to-be-popular colours into your design. Instead of the white-on-white look that’s popular right now, try black-on-black. You can do this by selecting a black tile for the floor, or even around the shower. In addition, you can incorporate black cabinets or vanities and accessories to pull the entire space together. If black isn’t your thing, select a tone you love (such as emerald green, for example) and make it the base of your design. Choose a monotone statement colour to tie your space together. For example, use emerald green tiles and cabinets, making sure the tones are consistent across surfaces. Build on your base tones by adding bright accents. Mid-Century Modern design often looks best when paired with statement colours from the 50s-70s, such as mustard yellows and military greens, which will both be popular in the years to come.

MOCK IT UP

Natural materials continue to be a big trend in our kitchens and bathrooms – from wood grain to beautiful stone and marble. However, where these materials don’t always meet the required levels of durability needed for the modern family home, ranges of realistic faux-effect finishes are becoming more and more popular. From hardwearing porcelain tiles to practically indestructible quartz, Silestone and Dekton, look at the benefits of these mock materials before you opt for the real thing.

OPEN PLAN

Open shelves and interiors are big on the list for 2020. Open plan living is a design must for many people today, particularly in the kitchen. This trend is also following through into the bathroom space. There’s been a tendency to tuck showers away into a corner and hide them with shower curtains, but 2020 leans more towards making a feature of the shower area by using glass walls and floor-level shower trays.
